John Harwood is a self-taught artist who began his career in London as a bespoke tailor. During his early years John was involved in an horrific accident and was forced to spend 9 months in traction. While at the hospital his only outlet was drawing and painting and John came to realise that his passion lay in the arts.
During his recuperation John began to receive commissions for sketches and paintings and when he left the hospital he decided to pursue a career in the arts. John explored illustration before switching mediums to the airbrush technique and was asked to complete a number of magazine illustrations and custom works, which is when his career started to take off.
Working during the heyday of the creative 60s and early 70s in London John created numerous works for pop icons such as album sleeves for Lou Reed and Mick Rock. John then decided to explore other media and started working towards more three dimensional concepts like the original Boy Shop in Kings Road and the Fridge Club in Brixton.
He took over a studio in London, where Tessa Kennedy teamed up with John and completed numerous art works and design projects including Regine's night club and Dame Vivien Duffield's chalet in Switzerland. John then completed the Enzo Ferrari tribute and opened his gallery on Hollywood Road in London.
In the early 90s John was commissioned to create the Ascot Trophy for DeBeers, which he chose to complete in India. John continues to create exclusive works for discerning collectors and has formed the John Harwood Design Company to explore the crossover between fine art and fine art objet in design and architecture. John spends his time between London, India and Italy.
